Sometimes good friends, fellowship, and fun are held together with a single stitch, and that has proven true for Phipps, who never made her first quilt until 2010, sometime after retiring from the Sycamore Shoals Hospital accounts payable department. 2019 was the first year that Phipps had entered her qullts in the Smoky Mountain Quilters of Tennessee Show. ![]() Phipps uses a long-arm sewing machine to quilt her creations. In 2019 she won a second place prize for her quilt “Riding Thru the Garden” and third place in the Large Pieced category for her quilt “Log Cabin Lilies.” This is not the first time that Phipps has won on her quilts at the Smoky Mountain Quilter’s show. Phipps received the award for her quilt “Inner Peace” in the Modern Quilt category. The quilt show featured more than 200 stunning quilts and approximately $6,000 in awards. Chris is truly an artisan with woodworking, and I was so impressed with his display at his booth.Īs I walked around the convention center, I was struck by the sense of community and camaraderie among the quilters. My camera was full and my mind was filled with inspiration. There were literally hundreds of quilts on display. I was amazed at the creativity and diversity of each quilt, and it was fascinating to see the different styles and techniques used to create each one. These stunning quilts were incredibly inspiring and showcased the incredible artistry and talent of modern quilters. While I was at the convention, I also had the opportunity to take a break from my work at the vendor booth and take in some of the quilts on display. I am excited to announce that the Churn Chain pattern will be released on March 17.Ĭhurn Chain in the Oliso Booth Quilt Show The quilt, called Churn Chain, showcases my love for the churn dash quilt block, as well as the Irish chain design. My third quilt was displayed in the Oliso brand booth and showcased my friend’s new fabric line called Rainbow Sherbet by Sarah Thomas, also known as Sariditty for Moda Fabrics. Turntable Quilt Pattern (in a muted rainbow color way) in the PBS Fabrics booth It was exciting to see how the different colors and patterns could affect the overall look and feel of a quilt. The gals in the booth told me that several convention attendees were able to purchase the Turntables Quilt Kits since they found the actual quilt to be very inspiring. This version of the Turntables quilt featured a muted palette and was created exclusively for PBS Fabrics in 2022.
